Last updated at: Dec 18, 2024

Now that you’ve purchased your Nexar beam2 mini, it’s time to equip your ride with your new co-pilot for a safer and more connected driving experience.

Installing your beam2 mini is simple and stress-free. Read on for instructions on connecting Nexar’s beam2 mini dash cam.

Connecting and Onboarding

Onboarding involves the initial setup process, which is crafted to guide new drivers through the necessary steps for connecting Nexar Connected dash cams like beam2 mini to a smartphone.

First, let’s download the Nexar Connect app, which will help unlock beam2 mini’s smart tech features, including (but not limited to) live streaming and Parking Mode. Download the app from the app store on your smartphone—it should download quickly and seamlessly onto your phone.

The Nexar Connect app supports all devices operating on Android 10 and above; as well as iOS 15.4 and above.

Have trouble locating/downloading the Nexar Connect app? Click either of the links below to locate the app for your phone’s operating system.

Please Note: beam2 mini utilizes the Nexar Connect app as opposed to the Nexar Classic app (compatible with Nexar Beam and Nexar Pro).

Nexar Connect app works with Nexar One, Nexar beam2, and now with beam2 mini. Nexar beam2 mini users will need to download the app on the left.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’re ready to deal with the hardware.

Connecting to Power

beam2 mini features a truly plug-and-play setup. All you have to do is plug the power cable into the power port on top of the mount.

Nexar beam2 mini supports connecting through the OBD2 port, it is the most efficient method for powering beam2 mini, ensuring continuous operation and negating the need for complex hardwiring/professional installation.

As it is a passthrough, you can connect OBD2 devices directly without needing to purchase a splitter adapter.

Activating beam2 mini

After the physical installation is complete, you will need to turn on your vehicle to power the camera.

  • Start your vehicle.
  • Look for LED indicators that signal the camera’s operational status.
  • Pair the device with your Nexar Connect app.

If you experience any trouble with installation, Nexar provides continuous after-purchase support. Our support team is here to assist with anything you need to ensure your beam2 mini operates as intended.

Opening the Nexar Connect App

Integrating your beam2 mini with the Nexar Connect app can be done quickly and easily.

  • Open your Nexar Connect app and follow the on-screen prompts/directions.
  • Make sure that your phone's cellular data, WIFI, and location settings are enabled to ensure seamless integration with the Nexar Connect app.

Mounting Your beam2 mini

Mounting your beam2 mini is an important part of the process – it is worth taking special care to ensure the camera is secure.

  • Before you mount the camera, make sure to clean your windshield – small envelopes with wipes are coming in the product box.
  • Attach the electrostatic sticker (included in the packaging inside an envelope) to your windshield to easily remove or transfer the camera to another vehicle. This sticker also helps reduce the camera's exposure to sunlight, offering added protection.
  • Remove the protective sticker located on the camera lens.
  • Check the camera view on your Nexar Connect app to make sure everything is functioning correctly. Then, position your beam2 mini camera in a way that ensures a full, clear view of the road – many drivers stick the road view camera somewhere underneath their rearview mirror.
  • Peel off the plastic from the back of the camera and firmly attach the beam2 mini camera to your windshield sticker.

Cable Management

You’ll want to make sure any wiring/cables are out of the way so they don’t get disconnected. Nexar beam2 mini comes with a handy installation tool and cable clips that help hide and secure the cable. We recommend starting the setup from the camera and working toward the OBD port, as this makes it easier to conceal any excess cable. You can wrap the cable around your windshield to give your new security system a streamlined look.

Nexar: A Truly Connected Driving Experience

And that’s all. Now you’re ready to hit the road with newly acquired peace of mind while joining the Nexar ecosystem. beam2 mini is more than just a dash cam – it’s a trusted companion and a gateway to a connected and safe driving experience.
